Kingston Area Birds December 20, 2025 – December 26, 2025
Kingston Field Naturalists (KFN) maintain records in a 50km radius of
MacDonald Park, Kingston. Birders using eBird are encouraged to share their
sightings with ‘Kingston FN’. Alternatively, please email records directly
to me – contact details below. Please note that some sightings may require
review and remain unconfirmed unless stated otherwise. Species in bold type
require completion of a rare bird report available on the KFN website or
directly from me. If indicated, an OBRC report may be required instead (
http://www.ofo.ca/site/Obrcreport). Some iPhone users report that bold type
may be replaced by asterisks.
Overview: With some of the Kingston Area Christmas Bird Counts continuing
this week there were some great sightings. The highlights of the week were
the Orange-crowned Warbler found by Richard Lott on December 22, and the
Barrow’s Goldeneye first found by Bruce Ripley on December 26.

Kingston List
Snow Goose: One was seen on Wolfe Island-4th Line Road on December 26.
Cackling Goose: One was seen in Bath-Centennial Park (L&A) on December 24.
Northern Pintail: Two were seen at the Invista Property on December 22.
Barrow’s Goldeneye: One was seen on Bath Road near Parrott’s Bay (L&A) on
December 26.
Red-necked Grebe: One was seen near Kingston-City Park on December 20.
Turkey Vulture: Three were seen in Sacket’s Harbor, NY (JC) on December 20.
Golden Eagle: One was seen at Bedford Mills on December 21.
Red=tailed Hawk (abieticola): One was seen at 4459 Lower Round Lake Road on
December 20. One was seen on Wolfe Island on December 23.
Black-backed Woodpecker: One was seen at 104 Hardwood Lane on December 20.
Red-headed Woodpecker: Two were seen in Frontenac Park on December 20.
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker: Two were seen on Ruuth’s Lane-Napanee (L&A) on
December 20. One was seen in Sydenham on December 26. One was seen on Sand
Hill Road on December 26.
Fish Crow: One was seen at Wellington and Lower Union on December 22. One
was seen at Queen’s University on December 23.
Tufted Titmouse: Two were seen on Bateau Lane on December 20. One was seen
on Ernie Lane on December 20. One was seen on MacAlpine Road on December
20. One was seen on Belle Island on December 21, one on December 22, one on
December 24 and one on December 25. One was seen at 8507 Perth Road on
December 25.
Orange-crowned Warbler: One was seen at Belle Park on December 22.
Chipping Sparrow: Two were seen in Gananoque-behind Kinsmen Community Hall
(L&G) on December 25.
Savannah Sparrow: One was seen on Amherst Island (L&A) on December 22.
Fox Sparrow: One was seen at 4835 Highway 2 (L&G) on December 20, one on
December 21.
White-crowned Sparrow: One was seen on Latimer Road on December 20. One was
seen at 4835 Highway 2 (L&G) on December 20, one on December 21, one on
December 23 and one on December 26. One was seen at Lemoine Point CA on
December 23. One was seen on County Road 22 (L&A) on December 26.
Eastern Towhee: One was reported (unconfirmed) from Petworth Road (L&A) on
December 26.
Red-winged Blackbird: Six were seen at 5545 Perth Road Crescent on December
20, six on December 21, six on December 24, six in December 25 and six on
December 26. One was seen on Sand Hill Road on December 22.
Common Grackle: One was seen at Long Point/Gravelly Bay Road (PEC) on
December 25.

Please note that you must be a card-carrying member of Kingston Field
Naturalists (KFN), or be accompanied by a member, to access the Martin
Edwards Reserve. Access to the Amherstview Sewage Lagoons is strictly
limited to KFN members only, no non-member guests permitted. Memberships
are being checked on a regular basis at Amherstview and those without are
being evicted. KFN members wishing to enter the Invista property must enter
through the west gate and show their membership card to security.
