19th annual Linwood CBC - December 30th

Hi everyone,

The 19th annual Linwood CBC was held December 30th. Temperatures ranged
from +2 to +3 degrees. Winds were WSW, 20-30km/hr. We had off/on
precipitation throughout the majority of the day with a mix of rain and wet
snow, making for a challenging day.

A total of 32 count participants gave the count good coverage, with 54
species observed, above the count's average of 53.5 species. The cumulative
species total now sits at 105.

Total number of individuals was below average, with 7,156 (ave. is 12,853).

New species:

American Goshawk – 1 bird photographed outside of Wellesley

Fox Sparrow – 1 bird seen coming to a feeder in Heidelberg

*Unusual species: *

Iceland Gull (Kumlien’s) – 1 along the Conestogo River, in Glen Allan (3rd
record)

Carolina Wren – 2 north of Paradise Lake (3rd record)

Hermit Thrush – 1 north of Paradise Lake (2nd record)

Brown-headed Cowbird – 1 at a feeder in St. Clements (3rd record)

High-counts: Golden-crowned Kinglet – 61 (prev high 59)

Low-counts: House Sparrow (265; prev low of 469),

*Notable misses: *Snow Bunting(!), Belted Kingfisher
