Observation start time: 10:00:00
Observation end time: 15:00:00
Total observation time: 5 hours
Official Counter: Chris Burris
Observers: Ronnie Goodhand
Visitors:
a handful of drop-ins throughout the day
Weather:
Temps ranged from 20C to 22C. Winds were steady from the S around 15 km/h.
Cloud cover was 100% for essentially the whole observation period.
Raptor Observations:
Today offered a trial-size variety pack: A mere 12 birds of 6 species (8 if
the local Bald Eagles and Turkey Vultures are included. Fortunately, the
single Peregrine -- probably a young female -- hung around near the lake
for over a minute, allowing for great views. It was initially attacked by a
Sharp-shinned Hawk. Likewise, one of the two Cooper's Hawks was harassed by
a Merlin. Ahh, raptor life.
Non-raptor Observations:
A few warblers are still around, and a Red-headed Woodpecker was a
highlight. For a full list, see: https://ebird.org/checklist/S197186644
Predictions:
Moderate northerlies are predicted until mid-afternoon, so better numbers
are expected.
