Visitors:
We thank today's observers and those interested in the ongoing Hawk Count.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, access to the top level of Hawk Tower is
limited to hawk counters and qualified observers only. The 2nd and lower
levels are open to the public practising COVID-19 safe precautions (social
distancing). Thank you for your understanding and involvement.
Weather:
Temperatures were low compared to prior days, with daily high fluctuating
around 20 degrees. Clouds were also consistently present throughout the
day. Winds were a constant North-westerly.
Raptor Observations:
More raptors reported then past hawk watch days with notable occurrences of
American Kestrel, Red-Tailed Hawks, Bald Eagles, and Sharp-Shinned. Numbers
in all species are still relatively low. Resident raptors were also present
throughout the day.
Non-raptor Observations:
Day consisted of large movements of Purple Martin (200+), Chimney Swift
(90), and American Goldfinch (approx. 120). Songbirds around tower were not
active until wind reached a calm state towards the end of the day. A
diverse array of Warblers are still present. Monarch numbers have increased
as compared to previous days but are not at huge numbers.

Predictions:
Winds tomorrow are expected to start off North-Westerly with a gradual
shift to westerly and then south-westerly by the afternoon. Hopefully the
northerly wind components promote raptor movement within the morning before
it shifts south.
