Visitors:
Nice to have the Halton North Peel Naturalist Club visiting the site today
for their outing along with a few others. Glad to see that they saw most of
the Golden Eagles which was one of their hoped for species. A big thanks to
them and the counters and observers for helping get a count done today.
Weather:
Great moderate NW winds all day with mostly pure blue skies... only a short
timeframe late morning where we had some clouds that formed only to
completely disappear again. Temps were colder starting at 2C and getting to
a high of just 5C. The humidity really dropped quickly as the morning
progressed.
Raptor Observations:
Not a huge flight with just 128 birds today but it was the quality that was
impressive. We had another 13 Golden Eagles today with several right
overhead providing some great looks and photo ops for the visitors.
Unfortunately, with the pure blue skies I'm pretty sure we simply missed a
lot of the buteos and accipiters crossing through today.
Non-raptor Observations:
I had a Common Raven that flew past early in the morning along with the
local Pileated Woodpecker and flocks of Purple Finch, Horned Larks, Am
Pipits, Pine Siskins, Cedar Waxwings and Am Goldfinch. Also noted were a
couple of Golden-crowned kinglets and WB Nuthatches. for the rest of the
non-raptors check out the number of eBird checklists for the Hawk Cliff
hotspot.
Predictions:
Monday has NE to E winds forecast with a bit more cloud which would help a
lot with spotting the birds. I suspect there will be a similar flight as we
had today with perhaps a few more buteos.
