Observation end time: 16:00:00
Total observation time: 10 hours
Official Counter: Dave Brown
Observers: Catherine Manschot, Michael Sandell, Tom Bolohan,
Tom Stewart
Visitors:
Lots including 2 larger groups.... one from the KW Field Naturalists and
the other a group involved in an online raptor ID course that came to put
their ID skills to the test in the field... and then several other visitors
as well.
Weather:
SW winds that started out moderate and then got stronger throughout the
day. Unfortunately, we ended up with rain in the middle of the day which
pretty much halted the birds for over an hour. Pretty warm again with
temps from 20C to 24C.
Raptor Observations:
Not a big flight today with just 73 raptors tallied BUT a bit of a surprise
with 7 Peregrines cruising through much to the delight of all the visitors.
With the SW winds we also had N. Harriers, Am. Kestrels and Osprey passing
through on the updraft at the cliff and a good number of Bald Eagles
working back and forth along the cliff putting on a good show.
Non-raptor Observations:
Please see my eBird checklist for other species seen today:

Predictions:
Monday's forecast is calling for a chance of rain / t-storms and W winds
which will slow down any kind of migration. Keep an eye towards the end of
the week (Thu / Fri) as longer range is showing possibly a couple days of
northerly winds which is likely to prompt some migration movement.
